Visited Island Falls late September 2008, doing preliminary survey for Environment Canada. The old airstrip and the housing areas are being considered as potential locations for an Air Quality Monitoring Station. Revisiting on October 28th to make final choice. Lovely area and I found your web site very informative on the history of Island Falls.

I never had the opportunity to visit Island Falls, but enjoyed meeting children from there who came to visit family near me. Bob Bowman and Sharon Brown (why do I remember the spelling of her name as Sharrin???), both close to my age, visited near my home on Main Street in Flin Flon. I remember longing to travel to Island Falls, but the transport was limited to aircraft and winter road activity. Thanks for one of the most complete "homecoming" sites I've ever seen.

In the summer of 1966, I spent my engineering internship at Montreal Engineering, working on the Island Falls automation and remote control systems. When I graduated from McGill in 1967, I joined Montreal Engineering and spent 6 weeks that summer in Island Falls. Looking at the list of names on the web site, Roy Bunn and Gordon Dash brought memories to mind. I also remember RCMP constable John Foray who was in the same bunkhouse and who gave us an unforgettable tour of Sandy Bay, my first experience of a northern native settlement. I found Island Falls an idyllic place, and I was sorry that it was to close in the name of "progress", even though I was a part of that effort.

Came upon the website while surfing for information on Hudson Bay Air Transport. Raised in Flin Flon I first visited Island Falls in the fifties to play badminton and later made a couple of canoe trips to the falls with the Flin Flon Canoe Club. Having my own airplane I became friends with Kieth Olson and Lowell Christensen and made numerus trips to visit at the plant. While flying for Parsons Airways I had the opportunity to fly both Norseman BFT and BFU out of Flin Flon and Lynn Lake bases. While flying out of Flin Flon I flew the weekly Island Falls,Sandy Bay Pelican Narrows sched. In the summer of 1965 I left Parsons Airways for Hudson Bay Air Transport. While there I flew the Otter,Cessna 185, Beech 18 and DC3. The last five years on airborne survey. It was a sad day in 1981 when they closed the hangar doors for the last time in the forty two years of operation. I than transferred to Churchill River Power as a millwright machinist and plant operator. I became part of the Sask Power take over in 1985 and continued to work at the Island Falls Plant until retirement from Sask Power in 2000. I have many fond memories of the north. I am still actively flying during the summer float seasons.

Dale: About the Old Guestbook postings: they can still be viewed. Go to the Table of Contents page and look under the heading "Items of Interest". It's the first link there.

Hi! I am looking for Flora Smigel, she wanted a baby moss bag pattern. I would love to hear from her I have lost her e-mail address. I am a aboriginal doll maker myself. I also make different size canvas tipis and square tents. This should spark her interests. Thank you ekosi!
