Andy Goodwin was born in Oak Lake, Manitoba in 1904. He first came to Island Falls to play badminton before moving there in 1952. Marian Pegg was born in Oxbow, Saskatchewan in 1919, four years after her sister, Ada Russell.

In 1950, Marian came up to Island Falls first to look after her sister's family while Ada was having her daughter, June. Afterwards, she asked Mr. Davis if she could work in the staff kitchen, and he agreed. Andy and Marian were married in June, 1952.

The Goodwins moved to Flin Flon with their adopted son, David, in the late 1950's, well before Automation. They subsequently moved to Oxbow in 1969. Marian died in February, 1991, while Andy lived until April, 1997.
